This certificate course is part of the AbSPORU Leadership in Patient-Oriented Research Microcredential.
Patient-oriented research is rooted in social justice and embeds equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) as foundational principles. This online course aims to inspire researchers to better integrate EDI in their research. Course content was developed collaboratively by experts in EDI and patient-oriented research (POR), including patient partners.
Learn skills and knowledge of EDI principles, approaches, methods and practices to apply throughout your research projects and environments. Learning in this course is experiential, and is reinforced through self-reflection and applied practice.
Delivered fully online over 8 weeks, this course combines live webinars led by EDI and POR experts, asynchronous eLearning modules, readings, online discussion forums, and project-based assignments. These activities provide opportunities to apply the skills and knowledge you are learning, and to connect with others to share ideas and experiences. Plan to spend 3-4 hours on these course activities each week.

The Alberta SPOR SUPPORT Unit operates on and acknowledges the lands that are the traditional and ancestral territory of many peoples, presently subject to Treaties 6, 7, and 8. Namely: the Blackfoot Confederacy – Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika – the Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney Nakoda, and the Tsuu T’ina Nation and the Métis People of Alberta. This includes the Métis Settlements and the Métis Nation of Alberta. We acknowledge the many First Nations, Métis and Inuit who have lived in and cared for these lands for generations. We make this acknowledgment as a reaffirmation of our shared commitment towards reconciliation, and as part of AbSPORU’s mandate towards fostering health system transformation.
