Storytelling for Policy & Health System Impact

Presenter: Rani Sanderson (StoryCentre Canada http://www.storycentre.ca/)

Description: There is a definite buzz around storytelling these days, and there is such huge potential to harness the power in personal narratives for positive change. Storytelling is a great way to explore a wide diversity of experiences, bring awareness to issues through personal reflection and connect people through shared experiences, particularly in communities or with individuals who have historically and systemically been marginalized and underrepresented. In this presentation, the speaker introduces you to the practice and method of Digital Storytelling: personal narratives, in the form of short multi-media videos, illustrated with photos and other art works. How can we use digital storytelling in health and patient oriented research?

Land Acknowledgment

The Alberta SPOR SUPPORT Unit operates on and acknowledges the lands that are the traditional and ancestral territory of many peoples, presently subject to Treaties 6, 7, and 8. Namely: the Blackfoot Confederacy – Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika – the Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney Nakoda, and the Tsuu T’ina Nation and the Métis People of Alberta. This includes the Métis Settlements and the Métis Nation of Alberta. We acknowledge the many First Nations, Métis and Inuit who have lived in and cared for these lands for generations. We make this acknowledgment as a reaffirmation of our shared commitment towards reconciliation, and as part of AbSPORU’s mandate towards fostering health system transformation.
